Not content with the government’s current propaganda efforts, the EPA is trying to spur citizen love for big government regulation:

President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency is encouraging the public to create video advertisements that explain why federal regulations are “important to everyone.”

The contest, which ends May 17, will award $2,500 to the makers of the video that best explains why federal regulations are good and how ordinary citizens can become more involved in making regulations. The videos must be posted on YouTube and can be no more than 60-90 seconds in length.

It’s particular amusing how good these people are at stumbling upon the truth, dusting themselves off and continuing on as if nothing happened.  Witness:

As explained in the EPA press release announcing the contest, the purpose of the videos will be to remind the public that federal regulation touches “almost every aspect” of their lives and to promote how important those regulations are.

“The contest will highlight the significance of federal regulations and help the public understand the rulemaking process. Federal agencies develop and issue hundreds of rules and regulations every year to implement statutes written by Congress. Almost every aspect of an individual’s life is touched by federal regulations, but many do not understand how rules are made or how they can get involved in the process.”

Methinks the EPA has missed its calling.  It should be looking to participate in contests itself.  For instance, their press release would serve quite well as Exhibit A for “why government regulation is a threat to your liberty.”

Moonbattery points to this EPA procurement order:

NAICS code 332994 – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigations Division intends to award a sole source firm-fixed-price Purchase Order to Glock, Inc. under the authority of FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures for 40 Model G-19, 9mm frame handguns with finger grove and rail frames, Tijico night sights, extended magazine catches and 3.5lb/NY1 Trigger magazines…

It is indeed disturbing to think that these econuts are running around seizing property at gun point.  Moonbattery even notes, “this unelected bureaucracy is quickly metastasizing into the ecofascist equivalent of the Gestapo.”

But this is not actually a recent development.  EPA has been packing since the Clinton years.  They already are an “ecofascist equivalent of the Gestapo,” and have even been putting out “wanted” lists of ecocriminals since last year.

The Environmental Protection Agency has significant autonomy and regulatory authority.  It is practically a lawmaking body unto itself.  This is problematic, as it is obviously not an elected body.  It’s made worse by the fact that EPA is also heavily politicized.

Dr. Alan Carlin has become a thorn in the side of global warming fanatics by insisting that the EPA look at the actual science behind global warming.  It was not good enough, he argued, the accept at face value the reports of political organizations like the United Nations.

Now, the EPA is trying to shut down the office in which Dr. Carlin works.
