The FDA’s Disturbing Propaganda
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. – C.S. Lewis
The FDA has unveiled a new set of graphic warning labels which will be required on all cigarette packages:
Some of the images are certainly unpleasant, but what’s really disturbing about is not the images themselves, it’s the degree to which the government is now willing to openly go in manipulating your behavior and personal decisions through emotional propaganda.
Here’s a thought exercise. How could we demonstrate that Big Government is bad for your health bysimilarly propagandizing various government agencies?
Idea #1: A family mourning the lose of a loved one who died because of the FDA’s cumbersome drug approval process.
Idea #2: A military funeral, held for a soldier who survived Iraq only to be gunned down in front of his family by SWAT agents as part of the failed War on Drugs, despite the fact that he had no narcotics.
What are your ideas?
Update: I decided to go ahead and work some up:
