Continuing in their efforts to erode U.S. sovereignty, a number of leftist groups is suing the government for “discrimination” against illegal aliens. From Corruption Chronicles:

Under the new measure, which was announced by the Department of Homeland Security earlier this month, companies that hire undocumented workers will be heavily fined and criminally prosecuted. Businesses that ignore warning letters about employees suspected of having fake Social Security numbers will also be fined and face criminal prosecution.

But a lawsuit filed against the Department of Homeland Security this week contends that the new rules are discriminatory and will lead to mass firings of legal workers. Even United States citizens will face discrimination if they look or sound foreign, according to the suit.

Filed in a San Francisco federal court this week, the 17-page complaint also names the Social Security Administration as a defendant because it says letters informing businesses of discrepancies between employee records and the agency?s database would violate worker?s rights and impose burdensome obligations on employers.

This suit is absurd on its face. How can the government discriminate against those looking or sounding foreign when they are not looking or listening to the individuals before issuing the letters? This is typical leftist scare-mongering and demagoguery. These groups cannot stand the thought of respecting immigration laws and national sovereignty, and they’ll pull out every dirty trick they can to protect this criminal enterprise.

Like the Danes before them, the Swedes are coming to understand just how opposed to freedom fanatical Islamists are.

Swedish artist Lars Vilks was invited by an art school to participate in an exhibit with the theme, of all things, of dogs. Vilks, something of a provocateur (his website has a cartoon of a Jew’s head on a pig’s body), submitted cartoons including one with Mohammed’s head on a dog’s body (it’s connected to the contemporary Swedish craze for “roundabout dogs,” but that’s another story). Before the exhibit opened, his drawings were removed by the organizers, citing possible security threats. Another gallery followed suit, claiming similar worries.

This provoked much discussion in the Swedish media. Although several other newspapers had already published the cartoons, it was only when Nerikes Allehanda, a regional paper in Orebro, published one of them on August 18 that the fur began to fly. Like the Jyllands-Posten cartoons of Mohammed published in September 2005, the cartoon was used to accompany and illustrate an article discussing self-censorship, threats, and freedom of religion.

It looks like things have already reached the point where thuggish violence is rewarded by preempted censorship. Unfortunately, the perpetual outrage mongers seem to have vastly increased their efficiency:

Sweden’s own Muslims have merely demonstrated peacefully outside the paper?s office, but, like the Jyllands-Posten affair, foreign intervention has now raised the stakes. With the Danish cartoons it took four months before several Muslim governments, at the behest of an Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting in Mecca, launched protests, boycotts, and threats, resulting in dozens of murders, especially of Christians. This time they took only nine days.

The Swedish response? Dhimmitude, of course:

A Swedish foreign ministry spokeswoman said the government had “expressed regret that the publication of the cartoons had hurt the feelings of Muslims”.

“We can’t apologise for the cartoons because we did not publish them,” spokeswoman Sofia Karlberg told the BBC News website.

The only reason they can’t apologize is because they aren’t the perpetrators, not because they believe in principles of freedom. It’s no wonder Islamists believe the West is weak, we can’t even defend our own principles.

A new and valuable source of information in the War Against Global Jihad has been unveiled by the Investigative Project on Terrorism. The organization’s new website includes profiles of individual terrorists, terrorists organizations and their front groups. It also includes references to legal cases in the U.S. dealing with jihad, as well as important Congressional testimonies and other documents. And much to the chagrin of Islamist apologists in the West, the site also features an audio and video multi-media library of prominent members of Muslim organizations making the kinds of statements they always later deny.

Sun Tzu long ago described the importance of information in winning wars. The Investigative Project on Terrorism allows all of those interested in learning about those who seek our destruction easy access to such knowledge.

A popular refrain of the Goracle and his religious followers is that the scientific community has reached a consensus regarding the facts of global warming. Like most of the rest of his claims, this one does not stand up to scrutiny. Michael Asher blogs at DailyTech about an upcoming research paper that disputes this common claim.

In 2004, history professor Naomi Oreskes performed a survey of research papers on climate change. Examining peer-reviewed papers published on the ISI Web of Science database from 1993 to 2003, she found a majority supported the “consensus view,” defined as humans were having at least some effect on global climate change. Oreskes’ work has been repeatedly cited, but as some of its data is now nearly 15 years old, its conclusions are becoming somewhat dated.

Medical researcher Dr. Klaus-Martin Schulte recently updated this research. Using the same database and search terms as Oreskes, he examined all papers published from 2004 to February 2007. The results have been submitted to the journal Energy and Environment, of which DailyTech has obtained a pre-publication copy. The figures are surprising.

Of 528 total papers on climate change, only 38 (7%) gave an explicit endorsement of the consensus. If one considers “implicit” endorsement (accepting the consensus without explicit statement), the figure rises to 45%. However, while only 32 papers (6%) reject the consensus outright, the largest category (48%) are neutral papers, refusing to either accept or reject the hypothesis. This is no “consensus.”

The figures are even more shocking when one remembers the watered-down definition of consensus here. Not only does it not require supporting that man is the “primary” cause of warming, but it doesn’t require any belief or support for “catastrophic” global warming. In fact of all papers published in this period (2004 to February 2007), only a single one makes any reference to climate change leading to catastrophic results.

. . .

The tone and content of the scientific works are greatly contrasted by popular media and political coverage, which overwhelming focuses on hysterical claims of coming catastrophe (see the Fire and Ice report linked to on the right).

In a rambling piece submitted to Cuba’s Communist Party rag, Castro reflects on how nice Bill Clinton was to him and surprises no one by declaring Malaise his favorite U.S. President. He also praises Clinton’s thuggish action regarding Elian Gonzalez, who Castro says was “kidnapped.” After waxing nostalgic on America’s communist Democratic past, Castro turns his attention to present times and discusses the upcoming election. Although noting that both Hillary and Obama have said that they want “a democratic government in Cuba”, Castro understands Democrats well enough to realize that such statements are nothing more than election rhetoric. He says a Clinton/Obama ticket would be “seemingly invincible.”

My how far the Democratic party has fallen. Although it was JFK’s gutless betrayal and refusal to provide air support that led to the Bay of Pigs disaster and allowed Castro to continue in power, the popular democrat at least understood that Castro was an enemy of everything America stood for. Members of the modern Democratic party, however, are incapable of feeling shame over the fact that Castro is singing their praises.

The Fred bashing memo must be making the rounds, as the ankle-biting attacks continue without abatement. Although the latest Rasmussen poll shows Thompson virtually tied with Rudy Giuliani among Republican voters, Jonathan Martin at The Politico nonetheless blares in his headline that “Thompson struggles as launch looms”. Martin trumpets the usual litany of anti-Thompson complaints, including claims that he hasn’t raised enough funds, questions about his seriousness and over-hyped reporting on staff turnover.

Ed Kilgore at The Democratic Strategist echoes Martin’s complaints:

These problems include a whole host of staff departures; infrequent and lackluster candidate appearances; and most of all, money shortages. Even Thompson himself is sending out signals that fundraising isn’t going that well. And potential donors can’t be too happy about writing checks to pay for staff who are likely to hit the bricks after a few weeks of exposure to the proto-campaign.

None of these particular complaints are wrong, but context is lacking and their importance is vastly overstated. The simple fact is that most of the electorate is not paying attention right now. All of this is warm-up. When the game really gets going, what happens now will be overwhelmed in importance by what happens in the coming months. If Thompson was only polling around 10% in the polls these problems might be enough to convince people he’s not a serious candidate. But he’s not and they aren’t. Despite the best efforts of those frightened by a Thompson campaign, his is neither struggling nor slouching.

Liberal politics and bumper stickers go together like milk and cereal. It’s understandable. Liberal positions typically don’t lend to complex explanation. They don’t need to. “Bush lied, people died” says everything they have to say on the subject. Their position really doesn’t go any deeper than that. Their entire stance on the war in Iraq is motivated by their hate for Bush, and they are seemingly unashamed to remind us of this superficiality at every opportunity.

Now the Democrats are on the lookout for the bumper sticker slogan that is going to win it for them in ‘08. That one, catchy aphorism which will hook those weak minded fools like a jedi mind trick. And they’re asking their base for help choosing the winner.

Some of the ideas put up to a vote so far:

W Is Out – Send the Right Wing With Him

No Republicans Left Behind in D.C.

What Have Republicans Done for You Lately?

2006 Was Just the Beginning – More Dems in ?08

They also encourage the nutroots to send in their own submittals (oh man, I wouldn’t want the job of sifting through those).

If you ask me, I think the dems are just getting cheap. Instead of paying some marketing firm to come up with a slogan, they’ll just farm it out to the masses and take the best ideas for free.

Van Helsing at Moonbattery has a list of some more appropriate suggestions for the dems’ bumper sticker.

What’s So Great About America?

We Need Your Money More Than You Do.

Fighting Back Against Terrorism Is Too Hard.

The Decline and Fall of the West Is Inevitable Anyway.

Maybe al-Qaeda Will Be Gracious in Victory.

Everything’s Free if You Force Someone Else to Pay For It.

There’s Still Some Silverware Left in the White House.

Right Wing News has even better ones:

If you can read this, your taxes are too low.

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.

There is no baby on board because I aborted it.

Work harder! Hillary has new government programs to pay for!

And from RWN readers:

Unemployment checks for everyone! Vote Democrat.

Vote Dem: Killing our future 1 baby at a time.

If we give them what they want, they’ll leave us alone.

Give the government back to the children. Vote Democrat!

EDWARDS’08: If you attack this country, my wife will talk mean to you.

Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines.

Vote Democrat! We know who you are!

Abortion, regulation and the pursuit of hopelessness. Democrats in ‘08.

Hillary 08: Fork It Over, B***H!

Here’s my contribution:

“My other car is a private jet.”

“Think gas prices are high now?”

“What do you mean YOUR paycheck?”

“DEMOCRATS – Rigging life’s lottery since 1792″

“Evolution: germ, worm, snake, democrat”

“I brake for manbearpig.”

“Biodiesal – because there aren’t enough starving people in the world.”

“Gore – what is it good for?”

“Dhimmi on board”

“Two Clintons are two too many.”

I’ll admit it. Sometimes it’s fun to come down to their level.

A German orchestra is heading for Iran to perform some classics, such as Beethoven and Brahms. Sounds like a great chance for cultural exchange, yes? Perhaps. But I think it’s also serving to reinforce impressions of Western cultural weakness. The women of the orchestra will submit to Iranian requirements that they wear hijabs.

A German orchestra arrived in Tehran on Monday, defying increasing political tensions to give the first performances in Iran by a full Western classical ensemble since the Islamic revolution in 1979.

. . .The German orchestra, whose female players will have to wear Islamic headscarves to obey Iran’s dress code, will be boosted by six Iranian musicians for the concerts.

The orchestra’s directors were at pains to emphasise their visit would not stray into politics and was purely aimed at increasing cultural understanding between Iran and the West.

Increasing cultural understanding is all well and good, but we need to ask ourselves just what it is the Iranians are going to understand about us. That we will debase ourselves to please them? That we’ll submit to the rules of Islam in order not to cause trouble?

The rule seems to be that, no matter the location, Islam must be accommodated. Westerners in Muslim countries must conform. Fine, but why then must Western countries bend over backwards to accommodate Muslims? This kind of pathological cultural weakness does nothing but invite Islamist aggression. It’s the cultural equivalent of appeasement. As long as we continue to signal to Islamists that we will submit to the dictates of Islam, Islamists will continue to believe that world subjugation is attainable.

The Democrats and their fanatical quest to wage war against this administration (ironic given their simultaneous refusal to wage war against America’s self-declared enemies) has resulted in another casualty. Alberto Gonzales, who has as much the Bush administration’s general political ineptness to blame for his downfall as the Democrats continued efforts to criminalize politics, announced that he will leave his post September 17th.

These are the same people, keep in mind, who are always the first to bemoan the lack of “bipartisanship.” Of course, we here at the CC always knew that “bipartisanship” was really just code word for “liberalism”. Thus why Democrats can rationalize launching such obviously political attacks over manufactured scandals while simultaneously crying about a lack of bipartisanship.

Let’s all hope that Chertoff, as is being rumored, isn’t appointed as the new AG.

A Swedish woman has been banned from smoking in her own backyard.

A Swedish woman has been banned from smoking in her garden in a trial headed by the Environmental Court in Vaxjo.

The 49-year-old single mother from Akarp, Sweden, said she is enraged by the decision but admitted that she will obey the ruling to avoid having to pay a fine, The Local reported Thursday.

. . .The ban came after the woman?s neighbor, a lawyer with an aversion to smoke, contacted the Environmental Court over the issue after attempting to sue the woman for smoking near him.

Environmental courts, an attack on smokers, a complete disregard for private property…all this sounds a lot like the lefts vision for America.
